Bengaluru Police Arrest 8, Rescue 3 in 15 Minutes After Fake-Cop Abduction, Recover ₹1.01 Crore

Investigators now examine how a fake-cop gang learned of the cash handover.

Overview

  • Two men posing as policemen confronted a couple and a driver during a planned cash exchange in Akshayanagar, filmed them, and assaulted them before the group was overpowered and abducted.
  • Mota Ram and his wife Lakshmi Devi, meeting driver Hemant to transfer ₹1.01 crore, were held in a shed for about two hours as the gang demanded ₹10 lakh in additional ransom.
  • Hemant was made to call his employer Mohan, who instead alerted senior officers, enabling Hulimavu police already patrolling nearby to locate the site swiftly and free the hostages.
  • Police recovered the entire ₹1.01 crore and seized a car and a two-wheeler used in the crime, then detained eight suspects identified as Narasimha, Jeevan, Kishore M., Venkataraju, Chandiran, Kumar N., Ravi Kiran, and Naman.
  • Authorities registered a case at Hulimavu Police Station, noted two accused have prior murder or robbery cases, and are probing how the gang learned of the high-value cash movement.
