Bengaluru Plans 72-Km Metro Corridor With Spur to International Sports Complex

BMRCL targets submission of the feasibility report this month to trigger the DPR stage.

Overview

  • A draft feasibility study proposes a 68-km main line from Kalena Agrahara to Kadugodi Tree Park with a 3.5–4 km spur branching near Jigani toward Indlavadi.
  • The spur is intended to link a planned ₹2,350-crore Surya City Phase 4 complex featuring an 80,000-seat cricket stadium, 24 sports facilities, and a 30,000-seat auditorium.
  • More than 50 stations are envisaged across elevated and underground sections, with wider spacing in still-developing areas along the route.
  • Dedicated services are proposed on both the mainline and the branch to provide direct access to the stadium from Bannerghatta and Anekal.
  • BMRCL is likely to file the feasibility report by end-October, after which a DPR may take about a year and further approvals about two years, with construction possibly starting in 2029 and completion projected between 2034 and 2039 as part of a 210.9 km masterplan expanding the network toward 467.69 km.
