Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 Tenders Set for JP Nagar–Kempapura Double-Decker Line

Design completion clears the way for bidding on India’s first integrated metro–flyover structure.

Overview

  • BMRCL says civil-work tenders will be issued this month for the JP Nagar 4th Phase–Kempapura corridor, with groundwork expected to begin by December 2025 or January 2026.
  • The corridor spans 28.4 km with 30 stations and seven interchanges, connecting areas such as JP Nagar, Mysuru Road and Hebbal’s Kempapura.
  • Phase 3 includes a 37.12 km double-decker alignment that combines metro and flyover infrastructure, including an 8.6 km Hosahalli–Kadabagere section, which drove earlier design-related delays.
  • The project cost is estimated at ₹15,611 crore, with funding split between the State (50%), Centre (10%) and loans (40%), including a ₹7,577 crore JICA facility that covers rolling stock.
  • The double-decker component carries an approved outlay of ₹9,700 crore, and the operational timeline has shifted from a 2029 target to a revised deadline of May 2031.
