Bengaluru Lodge Fire That Killed Two Leads to Negligence Case Against Owners

Police have booked the lodge owners on negligence allegations following a complaint over missing fire safety.

  • Yelahanka New Town police registered an FIR against the owners of the Kitchen 6 lodge on Akashavani Road after a complainant alleged the property lacked a fire exit, safety equipment, and adequate ventilation.
  • Kaveri Badigera, 25, and Ramesh Bandivaddar, reported as 22–25, checked in around 3 p.m. before a fire broke out in third-floor Room No. 6 around 5 p.m.
  • Lodge staff forced entry into the locked room, finding Ramesh charred and Kaveri unconscious in the washroom; she was later declared dead at a hospital.
  • Firefighters contained the blaze after flames spread to nearby rooms, the rest of the six-room lodge was unoccupied, and no additional injuries were reported.
  • Investigators sealed the scene, SOCO and FSL teams sent samples for testing, officials said the source is undetermined with a preliminary indication of self-harm pending reports, and the pair’s relationship has not been confirmed.
