Overview
- The CMS cash van had collected ₹7.11 crore from HDFC’s JP Nagar currency chest when it was stopped near Ashoka Pillar by five to six men claiming to be RBI officials.
- Custodian Aftab and gunmen Rajanna and Tammayya were taken into an Innova, the driver was told to proceed alone, and the cash was shifted on the Jayadeva Dairy Circle flyover before the van was abandoned.
- Investigators say the Innova used a fake number plate that corresponds to a different car, and the vehicle’s registration traces to a man in Thippasandra.
- Police traced the suspects’ route toward Bhattarahalli near Hoskote, circulated photographs citywide, set up checkpoints, and formed eight special teams to hunt the gang.
- The van driver, two armed guards, and a cash depositor have been detained for questioning as officers examine procedural lapses and possible insider assistance.
