Bengaluru Fines Kerala Student Rs 1.11 Lakh for Flame-Spitting Car, Seeks Suspension of Registration and Licence

Officials frame the steep penalty as a deterrent to social-media-driven illegal vehicle modifications.

Overview

  • Hennur traffic police traced and seized the older Honda City after viral videos showed flames from the exhaust and extreme noise.
  • Yelahanka RTO inspected the vehicle, counted each unauthorised modification as a separate offence, and imposed the maximum Rs 1,11,500 fine.
  • The owner, identified in reports as Mohammed Saifan of Kerala, paid the penalty and the car was released after a warning.
  • Transport authorities said they have asked for suspension of the vehicle’s registration certificate and the driver’s licence under the Motor Vehicles Act.
  • Officials cited safety hazards from the tampered silencer, tinted glass and altered lights, and noted the fine exceeded the car’s roughly Rs 70,000 value.
