Bengaluru Enforces 24-Hour Section 144 Order, Halts Liquor Sales for Eid-e-Milad Today

Police cite public-safety concerns tied to an expected 50,000–60,000-person procession.

  • The order is in force from 6 a.m. on September 5 to 6 a.m. on September 6, restricting gatherings and processions under Section 144 of the CrPC.
  • Liquor sales are suspended in specified police limits, covering Hennur, R.M. Nagar, Govindapura, K.G. Halli, D.J. Halli, Pulakeshinagar, Bharathinagar, Commercial Street, Shivajinagar, J.C. Nagar and R.T. Nagar.
  • Closures apply to bars, pubs, wine shops, M.S.I.L. outlets and restaurants serving alcohol during the window.
  • Establishments with CL-4 and CL-6A licences are exempt, and restaurants and hotels may continue food service.
  • Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh detailed a procession route starting in Kothanur and Sampigehalli areas and warned violations would be treated as offences.
