Bengaluru East City Corporation Seals 14 PGs for Licence and SOP Violations

The administration is coupling closures with a single-window, same-day trade licence system to speed up compliance.

Overview

  • Inspections led by Health Officer Dr Savita, under Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, found PGs operating commercially in residential zones without required trade licences.
  • Officials cited non-compliance with conditions under the GBA Act, 2024, leading to the sealing of the facilities for violating prescribed norms.
  • Seven of the sealed facilities were in Mahadevapura and the remainder were in KR Puram, with most residents identified as students or working professionals.
  • Commissioner D S Ramesh directed health officials to take stringent action against illegal PG operations to safeguard public health and safety.
  • From November 10 to 15, a Single Window drive issued 466 same-day trade licences and collected Rs 25.52 lakh, with ongoing camps enabling instant licences upon submission of documents such as a commercial rental agreement and electricity bill.
