Bengaluru Bike-Taxi Rider Arrested in Women’s PG Break-In and Assault

Investigators say CCTV footage was pivotal to identifying Naresh Pattem, who had moved to the city after bail in earlier robbery cases.

  • Sudduguntepalya police arrested Naresh Pattem, 30, for entering Laxmana Durga Ladies PG in BTM Layout and attacking a 21-year-old tenant on August 29 between 3 am and 4 am.
  • Police say he took advantage of an open entrance and a sleeping guard, locked another room from the outside, and then threatened the victim with a knife before taking Rs 2,500.
  • Officers reviewed footage from hundreds of cameras and obtained a clip showing the intruder inside the victim’s room for nearly two minutes before fleeing down the staircase.
  • Pattem is a native of Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, working in Bengaluru as a bike-taxi driver and residing in Electronic City, according to police.
  • He has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 75, 76 and 329(3), and police say he is in custody as the investigation continues.
