Overview

  • Coach Zac Taylor said Volson’s right-shoulder injury from an Aug. 15 practice will be repaired surgically, with his status finalized after the procedure.
  • Taylor indicated the veteran lineman is expected to miss the season and called the setback difficult for a player known for his work ethic.
  • Volson started 48 of 50 games over the past three years at left guard but entered 2025 as a reserve after rookie Dylan Fairchild won the starting spot.
  • The Bengals are assessing guard depth with Fairchild, Lucas Patrick, Cody Ford and Jalen Rivers, and Taylor noted Patrick’s issue is not as severe as first feared while they are still working through any external moves.
  • Volson restructured his contract this offseason to about $2.6 million, and his 2024 Pro Football Focus grades ranked him roughly in the middle of qualifying guards.
