Overview

  • On the final day of the Election Commission’s deadline, the West Bengal government ordered the suspension of four officials and submitted a compliance report.
  • The suspended officials are EROs Debottam Dutta Choudhury (Baruipur Purba) and Biplab Sarkar (Moyna) and AEROs Tathagata Mondal (Baruipur Purba) and Sudipta Das (Moyna).
  • The state chose departmental proceedings over immediate FIRs, a stance Chief Secretary Manoj Pant had earlier defended as avoiding disproportionately harsh action.
  • The case stems from EC allegations of 127 fraudulent registrations in Baruipur Purba and Moyna using forged documents, with concerns cited over shared logins and data security breaches.
  • Casual data entry operator Surojit Halder had already been withdrawn from election duties and suspended prior to the latest order.
