Bengal Nights Running 2–3°C Below Normal as IMD Sees Brief Cool Spell

The national bulletin shortens the cool stretch to about two days before minimums edge up, diverging from the Alipore office’s five-day outlook.

Overview

  • The IMD says most districts will stay 2–3°C below normal for the next two days, with minimum temperatures rising thereafter and weather remaining mainly dry.
  • The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore had forecast a longer, five-day run of below-normal minimums across the state.
  • Shallow to moderate morning fog is expected at a few places from Sunday to Wednesday, with earlier guidance noting possible thicker fog in some hill and coastal districts.
  • Observed lows include Kolkata at 17.1°C, about three notches below normal, and Sriniketan at 13.2°C as the lowest in the plains, with Purulia near 13.4°C.
  • Darjeeling recorded the state's lowest minimum on Friday at 8.2°C per the IMD, differing from an earlier report citing 7.0°C on Thursday.
