Overview
- West Bengal’s draft plan would lift the booth count from 80,681 to about 94,497 by capping voters per station at 1,200, with 13,816 additions, 37 abolitions, 1,253 reorganisations and 703 shifts.
- Political parties must file written objections by September 8, after which the CEO will seek DEO responses before finalising the booth map for the 2026 Assembly polls.
- TMC said it accepts rationalisation but insists any extra booths remain within existing polling premises to avoid longer travel for voters, while rejecting any Special Intensive Revision in the state.
- BJP questioned the CEO office’s neutrality, alleging identical DEO reports and that over 40% of BLOs are temporary appointees aligned with the state government; the CEO’s office denied forgery claims raised by some attendees.
- The largest proposed increases are in South 24 Parganas (1,551), North 24 Parganas (1,396) and Murshidabad (1,251), while BJP also sought shifts for booths it flagged for post-poll unrest in 2021.
