Overview
- Under DWP rules, anyone receiving PIP, Universal Credit or other benefits must report hospital or rehabilitation stays of one night or longer as well as any missed Jobcentre Plus appointments
- Failure to notify the DWP promptly can result in benefit payments being reduced or stopped
- Claimants are required to provide personal details and specifics of their stay, including admission and discharge dates, hospital name, ward (if known) and any other overnight stays in the last 28 days
- Reporting channels vary by benefit, such as using the Universal Credit online account, calling the Pension Service helpline for Attendance Allowance or Pension Credit, and contacting the Disability Service Centre for PIP and Disability Living Allowance
- If a claimant cannot report directly, a friend or relative may call on their behalf provided they supply all the necessary information
