Chilean striker Ben Brereton Diaz has joined Sheffield United on loan from Villarreal for the rest of the season.
Brereton Diaz, who was born in England and has a Chilean-born mother, could make his debut in Saturday’s FA Cup third-round match at Gillingham.
The 24-year-old has struggled for goals and minutes at Villarreal since joining on a free transfer from Blackburn Rovers in the summer.
Brereton Diaz was prolific for Rovers in his last two seasons with the Championship club, scoring 38 goals in that period.
This is Sheffield United’s first signing since manager Chris Wilder returned for a second spell in charge.
