Belém Completes Círio Pre‑processions as Large Security Operation Prepares City for Sunday

An integrated security, traffic-control operation will manage an expected 2.5 million participants on Sunday.

Overview

  • The week’s opening events culminated with the Traslado dos Carros and the lighting of a 36‑meter image on Oct. 7, followed by the presentation of the new manto on Oct. 8.
  • The largest romaria, the Traslado Ananindeua–Marituba, ran on Friday and covered roughly 52–58 km over about ten hours with the Polícia Rodoviária Federal escorting the berlinda and organizers estimating about 1.5 million people along the route.
  • Saturday’s program included multiple morning romarias by road and river, the Descida do Glória, the Moto Romaria and the evening Trasladação of lights, leaving the image staged at Colégio Gentil ahead of Sunday’s Círio.
  • Authorities have activated an integrated operation of nearly 5,000 personnel from PRF, military police, DETRAN, municipal guards, Corpo de Bombeiros and the Centro Integrado de Comando e Controle with progressive road interdictions across Belém, Ananindeua and Marituba.
  • Organizers expect about 2.5 million attendees overall, Casa de Plácido is set to receive roughly 13,000 pilgrims, and officials advise planning travel, using public transport and avoiding interdicted routes because of widespread blockades and traffic disruptions.
