Nurmagomedov's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, stated that the fighter was using a prescription medication that caused the positive test, and was unaware that the medication contained a prohibited substance.
As part of his suspension, Nurmagomedov has enrolled in voluntary drug testing with the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA).
Nurmagomedov has been removed from the Bellator Lightweight World Grand Prix, and it is expected that Primus will be reinstated after losing the semi-final to Nurmagomedov.
