Belgrano Bridge Pileup Leaves One Dead, Shuts ChacoCorrientes Crossing

Investigators are reviewing bridge camera footage to verify the truck driver's claim of brake failure.

  • The chain-reaction crash occurred around 16:20 on Friday at kilometer 2.2 of the General Manuel Belgrano bridge and involved more than ten vehicles, including motorcycles.
  • The victim was identified as motorcyclist Juan Carlos Pérez, 57, who died at the Hospital Escuela de Corrientes after being struck and trapped under another vehicle.
  • Injured patients include María Rodríguez Paz, 43, with abrasions, and Roberto Rescalde, 43, with a cervical injury, both treated at the Hospital Escuela.
  • The truck driver, Nahuel Ruiz, 26, reported losing brakes, and prosecutor Francisco de Obaldía Eyseric ordered technical inspections of the truck and other vehicles.
  • Vialidad Nacional reported the crossing remains closed for hours as crews clear the scene, and emergency teams disconnected batteries, contained spilled fuel and noted two cars nearly fell into the Paraná River.
