Belarus Says It Detects, Suppresses Drones Straying Into Its Airspace

Minsk attributes stray UAVs to electronic-warfare interference, saying it suppresses threats.

Overview

  • Security Council secretary Alexander Volfovich said Belarus tracks every drone entering its skies and uses radio-electronic suppression, resorting to combat aircraft and weapons if critical sites or civilians are threatened.
  • Volfovich cited extensive daily drone use in Russia and Ukraine and asserted that Russian electronic-warfare measures can push UAVs off course toward Belarus.
  • He added that Belarus has its own electronic-warfare grouping designed to restrict unmanned flights over the country.
  • General Staff chief Pavel Muraveyko previously said Belarusian air defenses tracked drones that strayed into its airspace and shot down some, while Minsk alerted Poland and Lithuania and received warnings from Warsaw about UAVs from Ukraine.
  • Russia’s Foreign Ministry accused Poland of exploiting the episode without evidence, and the Defense Ministry said no Polish targets were planned during September 10 strikes and offered consultations to Warsaw.
