Belarus Court Sentences Dissident Journalist for Reporting on Protests

Pratasevich worked as a journalist for the news outlet Nexta, which reported extensively on protests against Lukashenko in 2020.
Pratasevich's arrest in May 2021 led to international outrage and European Union sanctions against Lukashenko.
Nexta's founder and former editor were sentenced in absentia to 20 and 19 years respectively for their reporting.
