Federal and state investigators are reviewing the engine problem behind the training flight's emergency landing.

Overview

  • The emergency landing occurred around 5:45 p.m. Monday on southbound I-95 near mile marker 201, just south of State Road 520.
  • The pilot and a passenger, both 27, were uninjured, while the Toyota Camry’s 57-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Viera Hospital.
  • Traffic lanes were closed for several hours for removal of the aircraft and car, with full flow restored at about 9 p.m.
  • Authorities identified the aircraft as a Beechcraft 55/95-C55 operated by Tailwinds Flying out of Merritt Island, with registration N95KC reported in local coverage.
  • The FAA is leading the technical review, the Florida Highway Patrol opened a parallel probe, and the NTSB has initiated an investigation, as the incident followed other recent forced landings in central Florida including one earlier the same day in DeLand.
