Overview

• On July 15, 2025, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla appointed Elías Ibarra Torres as Secretary of Health of Michoacán, succeeding Lázaro Cortés Rangel.
• Ibarra Torres served as Secretary of Health from September 2021 until October 2023 and later held positions as Secretary of Government and General Coordinator of the Governor’s Cabinet.
• He began his political career as a local deputy in 2012, presided over the Health Commission and served as municipal president of Huetamo in 2015.
• His legislative initiatives include the State Health Law, the Law for the Prevention, Treatment and Control of Diabetes Mellitus, and the Mental Health Law.
• He is a medical surgeon and midwife trained at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo with a pediatric specialty from the Army and Air Force University and a diploma in Health Services Administration.
