BECKER TO COACH RUNE

Disgraced tennis champion Becker returns to coaching Rune during comeback

  • Boris Becker, six-time Grand Slam winner and previous coach to Novak Djokovic, has returned to coaching Denmark's Holger Rune, one of tennis's most promising talents.
  • Becker recently served eight months of a two-and-a-half-year sentence for tax evasion, leading to his current ban from entering the UK and attending next year’s Wimbledon.
  • Although it is unclear if Becker will be able to accompany Rune to the UK for upcoming tournaments, Becker confirmed he will start working with the 20-year-old player at Swiss Indoors next week.
  • Rune, who reached the quarterfinals at the French Open and Wimbledon, has lost seven of eight matches since Wimbledon. Becker indicated that his priority will be to improve Rune's motivation and clarify his tournament goals.
  • Becker and Rune have known each other for some time, with Becker referring to Rune as 'a rough diamond that needs polishing'. While their agreement currently spans only the rest of this season, its extension depends on their success together.
