‘Bebote’ Álvarez and 236 Independiente Ultras Detained, Given Indefinite Stadium Bans

Authorities acted to prevent a violent showdown between rival barra factions after online threats and suspicious mass membership renewals drew scrutiny.

Overview

  • Buenos Aires province officials said 236 supporters, including Pablo “Bebote” Álvarez, were stopped near the Los Siete Puentes access hours before the Rosario Central match.
  • Aprevide announced an indefinite prohibition of attendance for all detainees following the preventive operation outside the Libertadores de América stadium.
  • The detainees were booked on intimidation, resisting authority and alleged violations of Article 5 of the Sports Law, which punishes instigating violent groups.
  • Prosecutors from UFI 4 reclassified the case to intimidation and a reinforced security detail of roughly 570 officers held back the rival “Los Dueños de Avellaneda” group traveling from Barracas.
  • Police reported seizing multiple banners, straps, large flags, 13 drums and 94 umbrellas, while Aprevide said it is probing 150-plus expedited membership renewals that the club has not fully disclosed.
