Beauty Garden Spa Closed in Methuen as Manager Faces Trafficking Charges, Arraignment Today

A resident-driven investigation uncovered basement living quarters and prompted health officials to shutter the business for unlawful habitation.

Overview

  • Suping Zhu, 38, of Flushing, New York, was arrested Friday and charged with deriving support from prostitution, keeping a house of ill fame, and trafficking a person for sexual servitude.
  • Zhu is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Lawrence District Court after being taken into custody on an arrest warrant.
  • Police executed a Sept. 4 search warrant at the Wallace Street spa, seizing computers, phones, and business records and interviewing two women found working there.
  • The Methuen Department of Health, Human Services and Inspections ordered the spa closed after officers found basement living quarters in the commercially zoned building, and it remains shut.
  • Chief Scott McNamara said the probe is part of a broader enforcement campaign that will also target customers, with additional charges possible as the investigation continues.
