Bears–Browns Game Faces Arctic Blast as NWS Flags Dangerous Wind Chills

The Bears activated warming centers in response to forecasts of single-digit temperatures with subzero wind chills at Soldier Field.

Overview

  • An active National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook warns Chicago could see wind chills between roughly 15 and 30 degrees below zero around Sunday’s kickoff.
  • Forecasts from AccuWeather and local TV meteorologists project highs near 10–11°F with winds around 20 mph and a “feels like” temperature near -15 at kickoff, with little or no snow expected during the game.
  • The Bears issued a game-day advisory that opens three warming centers, permits battery-heated apparel subject to screening, bans cardboard, and expands access to hot beverages and hand warmers.
  • Tailgating rules were tightened for safety, including no open flames, no firepits, no tents or canopies, and restrictions on liquefied-fuel heaters in garages and the lower Waldron Deck.
  • Coaches and analysts expect the cold and wind to favor the run game and curtail deep passing and long field goals, while some fans are trying to resell tickets as Chicago braces for one of its colder recent home games.
