Overview

  • The Bears rallied past the Chiefs 29-27 to finish 2-0-1 in the preseason, outgaining Kansas City 424-357 and controlling possession 36:36 to 23:24.
  • Head coach Ben Johnson called the first two series “really sloppy” and said the first quarter was “not good enough,” urging faster improvement before Week 1.
  • Starter Caleb Williams opened with repeat errors from camp, including a botched fly-sweep handoff and a first-quarter sack, despite later finishing 11-of-15 for 113 yards and a touchdown.
  • Backup Tyson Bagent led the comeback and went 20-of-28 for 212 yards and three touchdowns to cap a strong audition for the No. 2 job.
  • The club faces Tuesday’s 3 p.m. deadline to reach 53 players after waiving six on Sunday, including receiver Samori Toure and guard Chris Glaser, and placing Terell Smith on injured reserve.
