Bearded Vulture Bavaria Missing for Six Months as LBV Appeals for Public Help

The conservation group is asking mountain visitors to photograph any bearded vulture they see to help locate the reintroduced female.

Overview

  • LBV urged hikers, hunters and others in the Alps to watch for bearded vultures and submit clear photos to aid the search.
  • Bavaria was last seen on March 11, her fourth birthday, and her GPS transmitter sent its final signal ten days later.
  • Project leaders report no indications of mortality, citing possible transmitter failure or loss of signal as plausible reasons for the silence.
  • She was released in 2021 in Berchtesgaden and had been regularly observed between the Hagengebirge, Hochkönig and Tennengebirge until early 2025.
  • Although her bleached ID feathers have molted, she can still be identified by two light-grey leg rings.
