Bear Breaks Into Fukushima Eldercare Facility Before Dawn With No Injuries Reported

Police are patrolling the rural area after the animal fled, following national warnings of increased autumn bear incursions.

  • A male staff member witnessed the intrusion, called the emergency number 110, and guided six residents to shelter, with no injuries reported.
  • Police said the bear was roughly one meter long and appeared to charge toward the staffer before smashing through a sliding glass door.
  • The animal roamed the hall for several minutes and then left; officers later found blood, hair, and shattered glass, and its whereabouts remain unknown.
