BCRA Posts Bank-by-Bank 30-Day Fixed-Deposit Rates With Offers From 20.5% to 28.5%

Following the 2024 removal of rate floors, banks now set their own TNAs, producing meaningful differences in monthly interest.

Overview

  • On Jan. 9, the central bank published an updated table comparing 30-day peso fixed-deposit rates by institution, which outlets used for consumer calculators.
  • Large banks mostly advertise TNAs near 21%–23.5%—with Banco Nación at 23.5% and Banco Ciudad at 20.5%—while some smaller players list 28%–28.5% for online or non-client placements.
  • Channel matters: Banco Nación’s simulator shows a 30-day $450,000 deposit yields $8,691.78 online at 23.5% TNA versus $7,582.19 in branch at 20.5%; a $550,000 deposit returns $10,623.29 online and $9,267.12 in branch.
  • At a 24.5% TNA that includes a large-amount bonus, investing $10,000,000 for 30 days generates $201,369.86 in interest, according to media calculations.
  • Using Banco Nación’s online rate as reference, earning about $350,000 in a month requires roughly $17.39 million, and about $650,000 calls for around $32.3 million.
