BCRA Comparator Shows Big Split in 30-Day Peso Deposit Rates

The gap forces savers to compare banks, channels and client status because effective 30-day payouts differ widely.

Overview

  • The Banco Central de la República Argentina publishes an online comparator and the version published Tuesday shows major banks mostly offering TNAs in the high teens while several smaller banks report rates above 20 percent.
  • Among large-volume banks the comparator lists Banco Nación at 19.25% TNA, Banco Macro at 19.5% and Banco Provincia at about 21% TNA as representative offers reported to the BCRA.
  • Several smaller or regional lenders report the highest published TNAs, with Banco CMF and Banco Voii at 23.5% and other institutions showing rates around 22–23%, according to the BCRA data.
  • TNA is an annual rate that must be prorated to 30 days so actual monthly interest depends on the bank’s TNA, the deposit size, whether the customer already has an account and the channel used to open the deposit; for example, ARS 2,000,000 at 19.25% TNA yields about ARS 31,644 in 30 days.
  • For savers this means reaching large monthly interest amounts requires very large principals and fast checks of published rates because the comparator is a snapshot and banks can change offers by amount, term, client status or channel at the moment of contracting.
