Overview
- The Banco Central issued Comunicación A 8460/2026 and published it in the Boletín Oficial on Monday, formally allowing U.S. dollars as an admissible currency for cuenta sueldo deposits.
- The rule lets banks open and operate dollar-denominated payroll accounts and credit wages in dollars but does not compel employers to pay salaries in that currency.
- Cash deposits and withdrawals in dollar accounts must be served at the branch where the account is registered and can be offered at other branches, ATMs, or self-service terminals only if the bank has dollar notes available.
- The fee-free status of cuenta sueldo is preserved for the portion of balances that come from salary credits and unwithdrawn labor-origin funds may accumulate without a time limit; other bank services may carry charges.
- The BCRA will send updated pages for its consolidated deposit rules and banks must adapt product terms and cash logistics, so practical rollout will vary by bank and depend on limited dollar cash availability.
