BCR Warns Weekend Cyclogenesis Could Drop Up to 130 mm Over Northern Buenos Aires

Saturated Pampas soils with widespread standing water raise the risk of new disruptions to fieldwork.

Overview

  • Rosario Grain Exchange forecasts a weekend cyclogenesis across the Pampas with 90–130 mm possible in the north and northwest of Buenos Aires.
  • About 1 million hectares are already inundated and a further 2 million are affected in center‑north Buenos Aires due to saturated soils and difficult access, according to the BCR.
  • BCBA reports wheat with 84.8% of area in adequate to optimal moisture and 99.5% in normal to excellent condition, though low‑lying eastern sectors show plant losses and yellowing from root asphyxia.
  • The national maize harvest reached 97.2% with an average yield of 72.1 qq/ha and a production outlook held at 49 million tonnes, with forecasters cautioning that new rains could stall remaining work.
  • Sunflower sowing slowed to 19.3% of planned area after recent rains, early maize planting has begun, and a BCBA survey projects 7.8 million hectares of maize in 2025/26, a 9.6% year‑on‑year increase.
