Overview

  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council granted planning permission by a 7-1 vote on July 17, 2025, ending a two-year application for the eco-home project.
  • Planning officers had argued the demolition would cause “significant harm” to a non-designated heritage asset in the Sandbanks Conservation Area, but councillors deemed the environmental and public benefits to outweigh the loss.
  • Local support was robust with 38 letters praising the proposal’s innovative design and its sympathetic approach to the conservation area.
  • The new two-storey house will target an A energy rating with renewable power generation, a seawater desalination facility and a 360-foot living sea wall planted with specialist marine fauna.
  • Entrepreneur Tom Glanfield will collaborate with Marlow and Arc Architects and landscape designer Andy Sturgeon to begin work on the sustainable family residence.
