BCCI Sets WPL Mega Auction for Late November as IPL Mini-Auction Targets Mid-December

New retention limits, purse deductions, RTM linkage will reshape roster strategy.

Overview

  • The WPL's first mega auction is scheduled for November 25–29, with franchises formally instructed on retention caps and auction mechanics.
  • Teams may retain up to five players under composition caps—maximum three capped Indians, two overseas, and two uncapped Indians—with any set of five requiring at least one uncapped Indian.
  • Each franchise has a ₹15 crore purse, with retention deductions set at ₹3.5cr, ₹2.5cr, ₹1.75cr, ₹1cr, and ₹0.5cr, and RTM cards scale inversely with retentions from zero (five kept) to four (one kept).
  • Key WPL deadlines include retention lists by November 5, released-player lists by November 7, player registration by November 18, and the final auction list on November 20.
  • The IPL 2026 mini-auction is likely to run December 13–15 with a November 15 retention deadline, reports say, as speculation on major releases at CSK and RR circulates and CSK signals that nothing is official until the team announces it.
