BCCI Sets WPL 2026 Mega Auction for Nov. 27 in New Delhi as Retention Deadline Nears

New rules cap retentions at five with fixed price slabs, reintroducing Right-to-Match to force teams to weigh core continuity against auction flexibility.

Overview

  • Franchises must submit retention lists by November 5, with a maximum of five players allowed under limits of up to three capped Indians, two overseas and two uncapped Indians, and at least one uncapped Indian required if five are kept.
  • The auction purse is ₹15 crore per team, with fixed retention slabs of ₹3.5 crore, ₹2.5 crore, ₹1.75 crore, ₹1 crore and ₹50 lakh; retaining all five deducts ₹9.25 crore and removes RTM eligibility.
  • Right-to-Match returns for the auction, with the number of RTMs tied to how many players a team retains and no RTM available to teams that use all five retentions.
  • The one-day mega auction is scheduled for November 27 at a hotel in Aerocity, New Delhi, after BCCI informed teams of the venue and format.
  • Player registration closes on November 18 with the final eligible list due November 20, and reports suggest India’s World Cup winners could influence which players are retained or targeted at the auction.
