BCCI Sets Nov. 25–29 WPL Mega Auction, Confirms Retentions, RTM and INR 15 Crore Purse

The overhaul targets competitive balance despite resistance from Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi.

Overview

  • Franchises must submit retention lists by November 5, with released-player lists due November 7, player registration closing November 18, and the final auction pool out November 20.
  • Teams can retain up to five players with limits of a maximum three capped Indians, two overseas and two uncapped Indians, and any set of five must include at least one uncapped Indian.
  • The auction purse is fixed at INR 15 crore per team with guideline retention slabs of INR 3.5 crore, 2.5 crore, 1.75 crore, 1 crore and 50 lakh deducted from the purse in order of priority.
  • Right-to-match will be used for the first time in the WPL, with RTM availability tied to retentions—five retentions yield no RTM, while fewer retentions provide more cards.
  • Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals oppose a mega auction, while Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz back the revamp, as the league targets a January–February 2026 season window.
