BCCI Sets Domestic One-Day Condition for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Rohit has committed to Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare campaign, with Kohli yet to confirm for Delhi.

Overview

  • The board and team management have told both senior batters they must play domestic one-dayers to remain eligible and match-fit for India’s ODI side.
  • Rohit has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association he will play the Vijay Hazare Trophy and has signalled possible Syed Mushtaq Ali involvement, though the T20 event overlaps with the South Africa ODIs.
  • Virat Kohli has not communicated his plans to the DDCA, with reports noting he has been based largely in London and has not played the Vijay Hazare Trophy since 2010.
  • The Vijay Hazare Trophy starts on December 24, providing the only 50-over domestic window between India’s home ODIs against South Africa (Nov 30–Dec 6) and New Zealand (from Jan 11).
  • Chief selector Ajit Agarkar has reiterated that available players should feature in domestic cricket, and reports suggest selectors may look for three to four VHT outings to gauge readiness ahead of January.
