BCCI Scraps A+ Contracts for 2025–26 as Multiformat Pool Shrinks
The board cites a lack of all-format regulars after format retirements by senior players.
Overview
- BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the A+ slab will be removed for the 2025–26 cycle, consolidating players into A, B and C tiers, with the official list to be released soon.
- The move follows Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma limiting themselves to ODIs and Ravindra Jadeja stepping away from T20Is, reducing the number of multiformat candidates.
- Last season’s A+ group comprised Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, with retainers at ₹7 crore for A+, ₹5 crore for A, ₹3 crore for B and ₹1 crore for C.
- Reports indicate Jasprit Bumrah, still active across formats with workload management, is likely to retain a ₹7 crore-level retainer despite the structural change.
- Saikia said one-format players do not meet former A+ criteria and described the change as procedural, adding that individual placements will be known once contracts are announced.
