The BCCI approved the centenary initiative at its Annual General Meeting on Friday, Sept. 18, authorising a year‑long programme to run from December 2027 through 2028.
Board officials will form a dedicated centenary committee to design and manage events and legacy projects for the 100‑year window.
The General Body also unanimously decided to mark the Indian Premier League's 20th edition in 2027 with special celebrations.
Media reports say the board is exploring an India XI versus Rest‑of‑World XI match as a headline event but that proposal is unconfirmed and faces hurdles in the ICC Future Tours Programme and inter‑board coordination.
The committee’s remit is expected to include historical retrospectives and grassroots initiatives and the programme could raise the BCCI’s global profile while creating scheduling and selection pressures for players and other national boards.
