BCCI CoE Clears Shubman Gill for All Formats, Back as India’s T20I Vice-Captain for South Africa Series

The fitness sign-off following neck-injury rehabilitation confirms his availability for the December 9 opener in Cuttack.

Overview

  • The BCCI Centre of Excellence informed the team’s Sports Science and Medicine unit that Gill completed rehab and met all Return-to-Play criteria.
  • He is cleared to feature in the first T20I in Cuttack, with India’s T20I-only players assembling there this weekend for training.
  • Gill resumes leadership duties as deputy to captain Suryakumar Yadav in a five-match series scheduled from December 9 to 19 across Cuttack, Mullanpur, Dharamsala, Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
  • The opener had suffered a neck whiplash during the Kolkata Test, which sidelined him from the rest of that match, the second Test and the ODI series.
  • All-rounder Hardik Pandya has proved fitness in domestic play and is reported to be in line for an international return during the T20Is.
