BCCI and Cricket Australia Launch One‑for‑One Umpire Exchange

The programme aims to broaden umpire experience by placing officials in each other's top domestic competitions.

Overview

  • The swap announced Tuesday assigns Australian umpire Ben Treloar to two Ranji Trophy matches in India, with Delhi v Gujarat set for Oct. 18–21 and Mumbai v Haryana set for Oct. 26–29.
  • Indian umpire Parashar Joshi will travel to Australia to officiate Queensland v Tasmania at the Gabba from Nov. 11–14, a One Day Cup match on Nov. 16, and NSW v Queensland at the SCG from Nov. 22–25.
  • Reports say Treloar was in Delhi for the Oct. 18 fixture, confirming the programme is already under way on the Indian leg while Joshi's Australian assignments remain scheduled for November.
  • The exchange is framed as a development initiative to give each umpire exposure to different playing conditions and match environments and to strengthen umpire education and standards.
  • Both men arrive with substantial domestic records: Treloar has stood in roughly 30 first‑class matches, 20 List A games and 39 Big Bash fixtures and works in umpire education in New South Wales, while Joshi has about 19 first‑class games, 32 List A matches and around 40 T20s including IPL assignments.
