BCCI Advances Start, Swaps Tea and Lunch for IndiaSouth Africa Guwahati Test

The earlier toss and inverted breaks aim to finish play before fading light in the northeast.

Overview

  • Play in Guwahati will start at 9:00 am IST with the toss at 8:30 am, beginning half an hour earlier than the usual red-ball start in India.
  • Session order is reversed: first session 9:00–11:00, a 20-minute tea at 11:00, second session 11:20–13:20, a 40-minute lunch 13:20–14:00, then the final session 14:00–16:00.
  • Normal stumps are scheduled for 4:00 pm IST, with up to a 30-minute extension if natural light allows.
  • The BCCI says the change is a practical response to Guwahati’s early winter sunset, which limits late-afternoon play.
  • Barsapara Cricket Stadium hosts its first Test on Nov 22–26 after the Kolkata opener keeps traditional timings, with reports noting returns for Rishabh Pant and Temba Bavuma.
