B.C. Sets India Trade Mission for Jan. 12–17 to Diversify Trade and Attract Investment

Premier David Eby frames the trip as a push to attract investment in response to U.S. tariffs.

Overview

  • Premier David Eby and Jobs Minister Ravi Kahlon will lead a delegation to New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chandigarh from Jan. 12 to 17.
  • The itinerary focuses on showcasing B.C.’s strengths in critical minerals, sustainable wood and forestry, clean energy, responsible mining, clean technology and tech.
  • Eby says the mission targets new investment and market access because U.S. tariffs are hurting B.C. workers and exporters.
  • B.C. cites $2.1 billion in bilateral trade with India in 2024, representing about 25% of Canada’s exports to India.
  • The visit proceeds during strained CanadaIndia relations over the 2023 Nijjar killing, with the criminal process ongoing and federal officials pursuing a CEPA reset with talks expected to start early this year.
