Overview

  • On June 13 the Conservation Officer Service confirmed the four-year-old male grizzly on Texada Island will not be relocated again due to its history of aggressive encounters
  • Officials emphasize there is no kill order in effect but say conservation officers will intervene if the bear threatens public safety
  • Since swimming from Powell River on May 25 the tagged bear has been observed stalking residents, chasing livestock and breaking into boats for bait
  • The bear returned after two relocation attempts last year despite being moved more than 75 kilometres from Sunshine Coast communities
  • Provincial ministries are collaborating with First Nations and the Grizzly Bear Foundation while urging the public to report sightings to the RAPP hotline
