B.C. Reports 49 Measles Cases With Local Spread to Chilliwack and Kamloops

Health officials urged vaccination after identifying new measles exposure sites across the province

Overview

  • British Columbia has recorded 49 measles cases this year, with 12 currently active, including three locally acquired infections in unvaccinated Chilliwack residents.
  • Fraser Health warned of potential exposures in Chilliwack on June 16 and 18 at Mark’s, Redwing Shoe Store, Walmart and Ahmad Barber Shop.
  • Interior Health confirmed its first 2025 measles case in Kamloops and traced possible exposures on June 16 at Shoppers Drug Mart, Denny’s, Aberdeen Mall, Earls Restaurant and Castles and Cottages.
  • The BC Centre for Disease Control reported a June 20 measles exposure at Victoria’s Hot and Cold Café and on four BC Ferries sailings between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay.
  • Alberta has surpassed 1,000 cases and Ontario has logged over 2,000 infections this year, prompting nationwide calls for anyone without two MMR doses to vaccinate promptly.
