BC Conservative Leader John Rustad holds a media availability following election results at the legislature in Victoria, Oct. 29.

Overview

  • John Rustad’s five-page letter warned that ex-Conservative MLAs Dallas Brodie, Tara Armstrong and Jordan Kealy and their staff threatened to release private texts and audio recordings unless colleagues quit.
  • NDP caucus chair Stephanie Higginson urged Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald to examine any evidence in Rustad’s possession in light of possible criminal conduct.
  • The accused MLAs, now sitting as One BC members, have dismissed the claims as “wild, false and defamatory” and denied issuing any threats.
  • Premier David Eby warned that if Rustad does not provide supporting information to police, the NDP will seek a formal legislative inquiry into the matter.
  • The RCMP has not yet confirmed whether it will open a criminal investigation, underscoring rising tensions between the B.C. Conservatives and the governing party.
