Overview

• Calgary police announced the charge on Aug. 30, identifying the accused as 29-year-old Nehemiah Walter John Oslund of Cranbrook, B.C.
• Oslund was taken into custody in British Columbia and authorities are arranging his transfer to Alberta to appear in court.
• Maschki, 23, was found in medical distress around 4 a.m. on Dec. 9, 2024, near the 1100 block of 32nd Avenue N.E., and died in hospital the next day.
• Detectives later classified the case as a homicide, citing evidence of an altercation on Dec. 8 between approximately 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.
• Calgary’s Homicide Unit credited assistance from Cranbrook RCMP and renewed a call for tips, including anonymous submissions through Crime Stoppers.
