B.C. Man Charged With Impaired, Prohibited Driving After Barbie Power Wheels Traffic Stop

Police say motorized toys used on public roads meet the legal definition of a vehicle requiring a licensed, insured driver.

Overview

  • Prince George RCMP stopped Kasper Lincoln around 9 a.m. on Sept. 5 near 15th Avenue and Nicholson Street after spotting a pink Power Wheels Jeep in traffic.
  • Officers say two roadside breath tests put him over the legal alcohol limit, and checks showed he was already suspended from driving.
  • He was arrested for impaired and prohibited driving, issued a 90-day driving prohibition, and given an appearance notice for a December court date.
  • RCMP said the stop was necessary because the toy’s low profile forced motorists to maneuver around it and created a visibility risk during the morning commute.
  • Lincoln says he borrowed the child’s car for a Slurpee run and plans to dispute the ticket, as coverage notes similar Power Wheels DUI cases in the U.S. and U.K.
