B.C. Man Charged in 1997 Southwestern Ontario Sexual Assaults After DNA Breakthrough

Police say DNA advances in 2024 led to the identification that set up the Project Aerial arrest.

Overview

  • Jason Timothy Davidson, 52, of Campbell River was arrested with help from the RCMP and Vancouver Police, returned to Ontario, and remains in custody.
  • Davidson is scheduled to appear in court in Chatham, Ontario, with 15 charges that include aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, forcible confinement, and uttering threats.
  • Police say four separate assaults occurred between March and August 1997 in Lambton County, Kent County and Sarnia, and three of the victims were minors.
  • Investigators report that DNA linked the incidents to one suspect and that investigative genetic genealogy in 2024 identified a person of interest.
  • The arrest followed a multi-agency effort under Project Aerial, and police released 1996 and 2025 photos of the accused while asking the public for tips.
